Mickey's Fantasia Garden
Hong Kong Disneyland to Present Mickey's Fantasia Garden at
Hong Kong Flower Show 2004

(HONG KONG -March 4, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland is proud to present Mickey's Fantasia Garden, a magical environment designed to showcase, for the first time, Disney's unique landscape artistry. Mickey's Fantasia Garden is on display at Hong Kong Flower Show 2004 organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Inspired by the legendary Disney film, Fantasia, Mickey's Fantasia Garden will feature Disney topiaries in the shape of much-loved characters such as Sorcerer Mickey and the beloved Hippos, Ostriches and Alligator, who perform a comic ballet under the music "Dance of Hours". Never before have flowers and plants been seen with such charm and charisma, bringing the magic of Disney to life.

"Hong Kong Disneyland is delighted to be, for the first time ever, participating in the Flower Show, a wonderful community event which is both fun and educational," said Don Robinson, Group Managing Director, Hong Kong Disneyland.

"The Flower Show provides an excellent opportunity to raise public awareness of the beauty within our own community and the importance of nurturing the environment we live in. This is of utmost importance within our own organization and we are proud to be able to share the beauty of Disney's topiaries with the people of Hong Kong."

Introducing the landscape design for the Garden, Paul Comstock, Director, Landscape Design, Walt Disney Imagineering, who is also responsible for the overall landscape design of Hong Kong Disneyland, said, "The topiaries on display here are the first group of topiary introduced at Disneyland in 1963. The structures have been borrowed from Walt Disney World Resort while the flowers and plants were sourced from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Thailand."

"The topiaries shown in Mickey's Fantasia Garden are a typical example of our landscape design which embodies the strong traditions of Disney storytelling. We are thrilled to provide the people of Hong Kong with a sneak preview of the landscape for Hong Kong Disneyland through this spectacular Flower Show," said Comstock.

Members of the public are cordially invited to visit the Flower Show and take photos with their families and friends in front of Mickey's Fantasia Garden.

A special Kids' Corner has been set up at the Garden for young artists to add splashes of colour to Sorcerer Mickey.

The Flower Show will be held from 5 to 14 March 2004 at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. Featuring Pansy as its theme flower and the theme "Pansy Fantasia," the event will showcase this exquisite plant and other exotic flowers, landscape and floral art displays by more than 100 organisations from local, the Mainland and overseas.

The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong Government. With the completion of reclamation for Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I by the Hong Kong Government, Disney has begun construction in January 2003 with the project scheduled to open in 2005 or 2006. The opening day program for Hong Kong Disneyland will include a Disneyland-style theme park and two hotels. The Phase I build-out includes a projected 10 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 2,100 hotel rooms, and an area for retail, dining and entertainment. The project is estimated to create 18,000 new jobs at opening (both Disney and other employment) growing to 36,000 once the first park reaches build-out. The Hong Kong Government estimated that the first phase of the project will generate a present economic value of HK$148 billion (US$19 billion) in benefits to Hong Kong over a 40-year period.
