Hong Kong Disneyland Celebrates 50th Anniversary with
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
HONG KONG (May 5, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland today announced
the biggest celebration in Disney history - the Happiest Homecoming On Earth,
an extraordinary global celebration of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland.
Disney's Happiest Homecoming On Earth celebration represents the biggest
launch of new attractions and entertainment ever - and the first time all
the Disney theme parks have joined together to mark a milestone in a truly
global fashion.
"We are delighted to be able to take part in this global celebration to mark
the 50th anniversary of Disneyland," Don Robinson, Hong Kong Disneyland Group
Managing Director said. "Hong Kong Disneyland represents a major milestone for
the company and we are looking forward to the next 50 years of magic. When the
Park opens in 2005/06, it will be the first Disney theme park in China, and a
significant tourism investment that will allow us to bring our classic Disney
stories and loveable characters to the world's fastest growing tourism market."
In celebration of the golden jubilee, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch the "Disneyland
Golden Celebration Stamp & Pin Commemorative Set" starting from July 11. The set features
a specially designed pin that symbolizes a golden new era for Hong Kong Disneyland, and a
collectible set of stamps that highlights the growth of Mickey Mouse over the past years.
Interested parties can purchase the set from post offices and Disney stores in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Disneyland - the fifth Disneyland-styled theme park in the world and the
eleventh Disney park ever built, will sit on a spectacular 126-hectare (310-acres)
site against a majestic backdrop of the North Lantau mountains and the waters of
Penny's Bay.
The project's opening day program will include a Disney theme park, two hotels
and retail, dining and entertainment experiences - all are designed to delight
the millions of local and international visitors who will visit the park. The
opening of Hong Kong Disneyland will further enhance Hong Kong's position as
the major family destination in Asia.
Apart from traditional Disney stories and characters, the design of the park
takes into account local cultural considerations. The Park was designed in
accordance with the principles of Feng Shui, facing the South China Sea
surrounded by lush mountains at the back.
Furthermore, Hong Kong Disneyland will entice guests with the diversity of
Asia's famous cuisines. On offer inside the park will be specialty restaurants
serving Western, Chinese and other Asian delicacies including dim sum, BBQ,
stir-fries, noodles and more.

About Hong Kong Disneyland
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government. With the completion of reclamation for Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I by the Hong Kong SAR Government, Disney began construction in January 2003 with the project scheduled to open in late 2005/ early 2006. The opening day program for Hong Kong Disneyland will include a Disneyland-style theme park and two hotels. The Phase I build-out includes a projected 10 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 2,100 hotel rooms, and an area for retail, dining and entertainment. The project is estimated to create 18,000 new jobs at opening (both Disney and other employment) growing to 36,000 once the first park reaches build-out. The Hong Kong SAR Government estimated that the first phase of the project will generate a present economic value of HK$148 billion (US$19 billion) in benefits to Hong Kong over a 40-year period.
