"Wonderful Nature" creates wonderful experience 100 young children enjoy a day in green nature
HONG KONG (July 10, 2004) - Over 100 primary school students from P4 to P6 today get together in an Eco Day Camp to experience the wonders of nature outside the classroom.
"Wonderful Nature" Eco Day Camp is organized by Green Power and sponsored by Hong Kong Disneyland and DisneyHand. Today, over 30 Disney VoluntEARS and team members from Green Power introduced the wonders of nature to 100 primary students, who took part in a series of outdoor recreation games.
The program is held today at the Hong Kong Baptist Assembly. Students took part in three tailor-made interactive nature workshops, namely "Tree and the Environment", "Renewable Energy" and "Recycling". Through these interactive sessions, children learned about the importance of maintaining mutual relationships with animals? human beings and the nature.
In "Tree and the Environment" workshop? participants had to make use of their observation skills to find out certain tree species in the huge camp site. All of them did a great job and completed the task in time. The workshop aims to introduce the fun of appreciating the nature to the children and remind them to respect, care and protect the natural environment.
Besides, participants also had the chance to learn about "Renewable Energy" by making solar boat or boat racing models. Through the activity, they learned how to make use of wind to generate electricity, and understood more about the advantages and disadvantages of consuming renewable energy, as well as the importance of energy saving.
Through the third workshop, "Recycling", children were given the opportunity to learn how to make recycled paper.
The "Wonderful Nature" Eco Day Camp has attracted 100 students from 12 local primary schools to participate. The program received overwhelming response from schools date back in late June. After the workshop, these 100 young environmental pioneers committed to share their environmental knowledge with their peer groups and families, and make an effort to protect the environment.
