Celebrating Mickey's 75 Years of Fun with Hong Kong Disneyland

HONG KONG (July 29, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Mickey Mouse with special appearances of Mickey and the Gang in Hong Kong!

Since Walt Disney created his real-life debut of the world's first sound cartoon in 1928, Mickey Mouse has been warming the hearts of millions worldwide. He has touched the lives of children, bringing them hope and joy as one of the world's most popular icons.

Mickey's 75th Anniversary celebrations will see the staging of Disney performances throughout Asia, visiting several destinations including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Guangzhou, Bangkok and Singapore. The Hong Kong show, entitled "It all started with a mouse", launched at Ocean Terminal (Main Concourse) today and will run through to August 1.

Starring in the show are Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip and Dale, together with a group of Disney singers and dancers. There are four shows each day starting at 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm. All shows are open to the public free of charge on a first-come-first-serve basis.

As part of its commitment to serve the community, Hong Kong Disneyland, DisneyHand and the Social Welfare Department have also jointly invited a group of 120 underprivileged children and their families to attend a special show at 1 pm today. The children and families were treated to a fun and relaxing environment with a group of Disney VoluntEARS taking care of them throughout, and distributing special Disney souvenirs.

Apart from enjoying the show, visitors can also have the valuable opportunity to take pictures in front of a Disney castle next to the Disney Stores on the ground level. This special booth, set up by Hong Kong Disneyland, will allow visitors to freely take pictures in front of a colorful castle. Besides, souvenirs including Hong Kong Disneyland balloons, coloring sheets and information leaflets on the newly announced Magical World of Disneyland will be distributed to the public who visit the booth.

Entering into the Disney Stores, citizens will also be able to take a preview of Hong Kong Disneyland by visiting the Preview Centre, where a model of Hong Kong Disneyland and a series of pictures on worldwide Disneyland visitors are shown.

About Hong Kong Disneyland
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government. With the completion of reclamation for Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I by the Hong Kong SAR Government, Disney began construction in January 2003 with the project scheduled to open in late 2005/ early 2006. The opening day program for Hong Kong Disneyland will include a Disneyland-style theme park and two hotels. The Phase I build-out includes a projected 10 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 2,100 hotel rooms, and an area for retail, dining and entertainment. The project is estimated to create 18,000 new jobs at opening (both Disney and other employment) growing to 36,000 once the first park reaches build-out. The Hong Kong SAR Government estimated that the first phase of the project will generate a present economic value of HK$148 billion (US$19 billion) in benefits to Hong Kong over a 40-year period.
