Hong Kong Disneyland Launches Third Annual
Disney's Imagination Day™

Inspiring children's imagination through visual arts

HONG KONG (October 15, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland, in conjunction with DisneyHand, today launched the third annual Disney's Imagination Day™, a vibrant visual arts competition developed to inspire young budding artists to express their creativity.

Supported again by the Cultural & Education Unit of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and the Education and Manpower Bureau of Hong Kong SAR, the theme for Disney's Imagination Day™ 2004 is the "Story of your Imagination" presented as a cartoon comic. The competition is open to all children aged six to 12 and is a unique opportunity for primary school students to unleash the potential of their imaginations, visualize their dreams and express them through a creative comic-strip drawing.

Hong Kong Disneyland group managing director, Mr. Don Robinson said, "Disney's Imagination Day™ was originally launched in 2001 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney - the master storyteller himself.

"The essence of storytelling is creativity and the competition aims to enhance originality and highlights the importance of nurturing and developing the power of imagination at a young age."

This year, Disney's Imagination Day™ is also tapping into mainland China's young creative talent by holding separate competitions for students in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

Teachers are being encouraged to include the Disney's Imagination Day™ competition as part of a special school assignment. The competition will be divided into two categories for primary school students, P1-P3 and P4-P6, with a sub-section for group submissions.

Entry forms for the Disney's Imagination Day™ competition are available from RTHK (Broadcasting House, 30 Broadcast Drive, Kowloon) or the Disney Store at Ocean Terminal (Shop 038 Marine Deck, Ocean Terminal, Kowloon).

Disney's Imagination Day™ entries will close on November 15, 2004 and can be submitted by post to the Cultural & Education Unit of RTHK.

The 10 most imaginative and outstanding entries from each category will be asked to present their stories and artwork to the adjudicating panel comprising representatives from Hong Kong Disneyland, Education and Manpower Bureau, Radio Television Hong Kong as a well as a well-known artist and comic writer. One final entry from each category will be selected as the grand prizewinner. All winners will be notified individually in late November 2004.

A celebratory Disney's Imagination Day™ prize presentation ceremony will be held on December 5, 2004. The grand prize includes an official Disney's Imagination Day™ certificate, a Disney Store gift certificate of HK$1,000, and a very special and unprecedented Disney breakfast whereby all winners will be invited to indulge in a delicious buffet with their favorite Disney characters.

About Hong Kong Disneyland
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government. With the completion of reclamation for Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I by the Hong Kong SAR Government, Disney began construction in January 2003 with the project scheduled to open in late 2005/ early 2006. The opening day program for Hong Kong Disneyland will include a Disneyland-style theme park and two hotels. The Phase I build-out includes a projected 10 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 2,100 hotel rooms, and an area for retail, dining and entertainment. The project is estimated to create 18,000 new jobs at opening (both Disney and other employment) growing to 36,000 once the first park reaches build-out. The Hong Kong SAR Government estimated that the first phase of the project will generate a present economic value of HK$148 billion (US$19 billion) in benefits to Hong Kong over a 40-year period.
