Magic Wanted at Hong Kong Disneyland
Cast member hopefuls take center stage as performer recruitment drive begins
HONG KONG (October 30, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland is set to launch the city's largest recruitment drive for talent this Saturday by inviting energetic performers to become part of the international theme park's magic.
Kicking off at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Disneyland will hold its first round of auditions for the Park's vibrant parade dancers and will continue the process in the coming months to recruit a full range of performing artists including musicians, vocalists, actors, show dancers, character performers and variety artists. In all, approximately 500 performers will be hired by the time Hong Kong Disneyland opens in late 2005 or early 2006.
According to Laurie Jordan, Vice President of Entertainment for Hong Kong Disneyland, the Park is seeking cast members who are passionate about not only performing but also creating magical moments and lasting memories for guests.
"Becoming a cast member at Hong Kong Disneyland is more than bringing a show to life, it is believing that you truly create magic for our guests," Jordan said. "We're looking for people who can make our guests feel like they've stepped into a fantasy world and are welcomed with big, genuine smiles."
The diversity and scale of Hong Kong Disneyland's talent recruitment drive is unprecedented in Hong Kong and so far the Park has received over 1,000 applications for various performing entertainment roles.
"We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous response from the community. I believe that Hong Kong Disneyland will provide a permanent venue for Hong Kong to showcase its variety of performing artists to our international guests," Jordan said.
In addition to Saturday's auditions for parade dancers, Hong Kong Disneyland will hold further auditions in November for musicians specializing in brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, as well as pianists and harpists.
In January next year, Hong Kong Disneyland will begin auditions for stage show performers who will add color and life to the Broadway-style productions for which Disney is famous.
Once selected, successful candidates will undergo a dedicated training and rehearsal program with the majority of candidates becoming permanent cast members of Hong Kong Disneyland thereafter.

About Hong Kong Disneyland
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government. With the completion of reclamation for Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I by the Hong Kong SAR Government in December 2002, Disney began construction in January 2003 with the project scheduled to open in late 2005/ early 2006. The opening day program for Hong Kong Disneyland will include a Disneyland-style theme park and two hotels. The Phase I build-out includes a projected 10 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 2,100 hotel rooms, and an area for retail, dining and entertainment. The project is estimated to create 18,000 new jobs at opening (both Disney and other employment) growing to 36,000 once the first park reaches build-out. The Hong Kong SAR Government estimated that the first phase of the project will generate a present economic value of HK$148 billion (US$19 billion) in benefits to Hong Kong over a 40-year period.
