Hong Kong Disneyland Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

(HONG KONG, December 1, 2005) - Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Hong Kong Disneyland came alive with snowflakes and Christmas carols as the first lighting of its towering 60-foot Christmas tree marked the official start to "A Magical Christmas," the first holiday season for the resort.

The Disneyland Band filled the air with Christmas songs before special guests, pop star Joey Yung and Larry Shek, member of the Hong Kong Disneyland First Family, Mickey Mouse and friends tossed pixie dust into the air to initiate the lighting of the Christmas tree, which anchors the resort's first holiday festivities, in Town Square. Every night at 6:00pm during "A Magical Christmas" (Dec. 1 - Dec. 31), one lucky guest is invited to light the tree to signal the start of snowfall on Main Street USA.

"It's great to be back at Hong Kong Disneyland!" said Joey Yung. "I was honored to be a part of the Grand Opening and it's now exciting to be back to kick off the Christmas Season!"

Aglow with glittering decorations in hues of vibrant red and green, Main Street USA pays tribute to the spirit of Christmas past as the quaint small-town stores and restaurants swing into holiday festivities.

"Nothing captures Christmas like snow-capped rooftops and streets covered with snowflakes. For most people across Asia, this is a sight unseen, so we are delighted to be presenting such a magical experience for our guests," said Roy Tan Hardy, Vice President of Marketing, Hong Kong Disneyland.

Lively Christmas music fills the air with special performances by the Main Street Carolers, a dynamic barbershop quartet renowned for their charming blend of humor, showmanship and versatility. Their repertoire of Christmas favorites is sure to entertain - especially in four-part harmony.

The many stores at Hong Kong Disneyland offer plenty of treasures and gift ideas to fill holiday stockings. Featuring over 160 Christmas season only items, guests can choose from glitzy ornaments, soft plush toys, novelty hats and more. More than 50 percent of the holiday items are exclusive to Hong Kong Disneyland including a variety of seasonal pins featuring some of the park's most beloved Disney pals.

The aroma of freshly roasted chestnuts, a first for any Disney theme park in the world, wafts throughout Main Street USA as freshly baked delicacies vie for attention at the nearby Market House Bakery.

Inside the bakery, Disney chefs are whipping up holiday treats to tempt guests of all ages and feature mouthwatering petit Christmas log cakes, Christmas tree rice crispies and tiramisu in a special Mickey Mouse shaped cup. There's also a delicious selection of take home goodies including decorated Christmas cookies, crunchy Mickey ginger biscuits and snowmen presented in a holiday gift bag.

For guests looking to enjoy a dine-in Christmas-inspired lunch or dinner, the Corner Cafe and Plaza Inn offer special menus for a complete yuletide experience.

A visit to Hong Kong Disneyland this Christmas would not be complete without a special photo with beloved Disney friends, who are dressed up in their winter finery just in time to inspire a Christmas tradition for every guest.

For guests who extend their Hong Kong Disneyland experience and choose to stay in one of the two hotels, the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel, the magic never ends. Decorations, Christmas trees, carolers, storytelling, scrumptious food and special visits by Santa Claus (and Santa Goofy) ensure an immersive holiday experience like never before.

"Experiencing the magic of a Disney Christmas is a tradition for generations of guests at other Disney parks around the world, and we are pleased to bring the enjoyment and excitement of a sparkling Disney Christmas to Hong Kong.

"We hope that every guest who comes to Hong Kong Disneyland this holiday season will create memories that will last a lifetime," said Hardy.
