Disney's "Magical Chinese New Year" for The Salvation Army
(HONG KONG, February 14, 2006) - Hong Kong Disneyland and The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command organized a Disney "Magical Chinese New Year" Fun Day at The Salvation Army Tin Ka Ping Primary School last Saturday, 11 February 2006. For over two hundred 7 - 11 year old beneficiaries from the Tuen Mun, Shatin, Tai Po and Chuk Yuen neighborhoods. To welcome the Year of the Dog, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Pluto played hosts to their little guests while 100 Disney VoluntEARS helped conduct fun activities which included a team worked effort in producing a record long lai-see firecracker.
The event was officiated by Mariam Im, Director, Controller, Hong Kong Disneyland and The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command Officer Commanding, Lt-Colonel Alfred Tsang. "Hong Kong Disneyland sponsored this important Chinese festival to share the Disney magic with the local community to wish them happiness and good health in the New Year," says Im. "Our Company always encourages volunteerism and this is one of the many occasions which our Disney VoluntEARS can serve our community in which we work and live in."
The children and Disney VoluntEARS were divided into teams to compete in three New Year themed games. "The games are specially designed by our Salvation Army social workers such that teamwork and cooperation are manifested together with fun and laughter," added Lt-Colonel Tsang.
Lt-Colonel Tsang expressed gratitude to Hong Kong Disneyland for sponsoring the Fun Day which has brought much excitement and meaning to the New Year of a group of "privileged" children served by The Salvation Army.
